About

A small family farm in Salem County

Alkmaar Farms LLC is a small, family-owned farm and fruit tree nursery, owned and run by Paul Alkema and his family. We live on our 7 acres in Salem County, New Jersey. This is our home, not a commercial farm.

The work

What we do

We’re a local family farm and nursery on just 7 acres, and we love fruit trees. We grow our own for our family, keep a small family orchard, and sell trees to our neighbors, homeowners and local growers.

Growing our own trees has taught us a lot: which varieties handle South Jersey’s heat and humidity, how to plant a tree so it thrives, and how to keep it healthy year after year. We’re always glad to share what we know, whether that’s choosing a pollination partner or walking you through our planting guide.

We also buy trees from a supplier nursery we trust. That’s where our reservation list comes from, and it lets us offer far more varieties than we could grow ourselves. We take the orders, answer the questions and have the trees ready for pickup here in Pittsgrove, typically in March. Reservations for the 2027 season are open now.

On the side, we’ve recently started building software, beginning with HuntingRulebook.com, which puts state hunting regulations in plain language. It’s a small, new part of the business. The trees come first.
