About

A family company with dirt on its boots and a text editor open

Alkmaar Farms LLC is owned and run by Paul Alkema and his family in Salem County, New Jersey. It started as a farm. It is now a farm and a software company, and we see no contradiction in that at all.

The work

Why one company does both

Farming is the older half. We grow fruit and specialty trees, sell them wholesale, and keep a private orchard for the family. That work does not stop, and it is not a side business.

The software half started the way most useful software does — with a problem we had ourselves. Anyone who has tried to work out whether they can legally hunt a particular species, on a particular day, in a particular zone, knows how much time disappears into a PDF. So we built HuntingRulebook.com. Other projects followed the same way.

Keeping both under one LLC is deliberate. The farm keeps the software grounded in real work with real seasons, and the software keeps the farm from doing everything the slow way. Neither half is a hobby.

We build the tools we need for our own land, then we make them good enough to hand to somebody else. Alkmaar Farms LLC

What you can expect

How we like to do business

Straight answers

If a variety is wrong for your site, or a software idea is bigger than your budget, we will say so before you spend money.

Realistic timelines

Trees run on seasons and software runs on effort. We would rather quote you a date we can hold than the one you want to hear.

You reach a person

A family LLC does not have a support tier. The people you email are the people doing the work.
